As If Political Conventions Were Not Already A Huge Waste Of Money ...

The less I read about political conventions, the happier I am. Here's a perfect example:

Skipping the balloon drop might be to the Democrats' advantage, considering what happened last time. Democrats budgeted $250,000 to make 100,000 balloons to drop around nominee John Kerry at the Fleet Center in Boston. But something went wrong and too few balloons dropped after Kerry concluded his speech.

$250,000 on balloons? At a cost of $2.50 a balloon? WTF?! Who was filling these balloons with helium - Halliburton?

Here's a novel idea for all future conventions -- skip the balloons altogether. Donate the money to charity. Build houses with that money. Christ, it would be better spent on lottery tickets than balloons.
