I started off the trip with a lot of discipline -- I'd get up at 7 am, be out of the hotel by 8. Now the alarm goes off and I just don't care. It's 9:30 right now and I won't be out of the hotel till 10:30 at the earliest. Today's destinations? Wupatki and the Grand Canyon (where I'll likely spend December 26th as well).
Wednesday, December 23rd was probably the most boring day of the trip. I drove through both districts of Saguaro National Park and after a while even 25 foot cacti get repetitive. I did a hike near Signal Hill and saw some petroglyphs, but there was no wildlife to speak of -- if I visited during the summer, I'd have the chance to see some rattlesnakes and gila monsters.
I went to a Phoenix Suns game on Wednesday night and watched Kevin Durant (of the opposing Oklahoma City Thunder) put on a show. You have to like the young nucleus of the Thunder -- Westbrook at point guard, Harden at shooting guard, Durant at small forward, Jeff Green at power forward. All they need is a low post scoring threat and they'll be able to compete with the very best of the West. Photos from the game:
I spent Christmas Eve at two spots: Montezuma Castle, a well preserved cliff dwelling, and Sedona. The hike to Bell Rock is awesome -- I somehow skipped this the last time I was in town (November 2008). Photos below:
