The Latest

Busy busy busy ... next week is essentially like an exams week, except I just have a bunch of papers that are due (ahh, the luxury of being a COM student -- no real exams). All of my classes are pretty much wrapped up by Wednesday, December 12th. Nice to be finishing up so early ...

Then it's a party for the departing science journalism students on Thursday the 13th, another gathering on Saturday the 15th, and just work at the Writing Center on Monday the 17th and Tuesday the 18th. I fly to Florida the night of the 18th (Igor, who's crazy enough to join for this trip, arrives the next day), then it's off to Peru on Xmas Day. I fly back to Miami on Jan. 14 and then back to Boston on Jan. 15. The second semester begins on Wednesday, January 16.

In addition to the Writing Center gig (12 hours a week), I may be a TA next semester (15 hour a week time commitment). I'm guessing I'll be taking 16 credits (possibly 20) and I'll be working a combined 27 hours a week, not counting the work I still have to do for Worldwide Business Research (maintaining my event which runs at the end of February).

So for anyone who thinks I had it easy as an undergrad, I'm making up for it as a grad student. I have the worst time management skills on earth (hence this blog entry ... a surefire waste of time), but I make up for it by not sleeping. Things that could've been done between 9 and 11 p.m. are instead done between 3 and 5 a.m.

Other news:

* One of my roommates is using an original Jeff M. instrumental as background music in a short film. As some of you know, I made my first horror film acting cameo back in November -- when I was repeatedly struck with a guitar and killed by a cannibal. There are benefits to having film student roommates.

* There are now 21 11x14 picture frames decorating the 3rd floor of 20 Ashford. It's officially overkill ...

Have a good trip! Bring back lots of stories!

Your semester starts the day before my birthday -- I still want to come for a visit some time, but I don't think mid-January is the best time to be in Boston, is it?

About Me

My photo
I am a researcher, reporter and conference producer with experience spanning the aerospace & defense, biopharma, chemical, consumer electronics, energy, homeland security, human resources and IT markets.

In January I rejoined Worldwide Business Research, where I serve as program manager for Consumer Returns, SCMchem and the Digital Travel Summit.

I have an M.S. in science and medical journalism from Boston University (Dec 2008) and did my undergraduate work at Indiana University, majoring in journalism and political science (May 2001). After interning for the Chicago Tribune as a collegian, I landed my first real gig in the Windy City: I was a senior technology writer for I-Street magazine (Sept 2001-Feb 2003). I covered nanotech and biotech startups. From March-November 2003, I worked for a newsletter publisher (Exchange Monitor Publications) in DC, covering congressional hearings, the NRC & DHS.
