Trade Verdict

Since Marquis Daniels (traded away) has been injured and has no value (given Mike Dunleavy's return), I'll be doing a simple 4 vs. 4 comparison.

The other players I traded were: Chris Duhon, Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Ronnie Brewer
The players I received were: Rajon Rondo, Allen Iverson, Jeff Green, Shawn Marion

The players I received have produced the following #s over 17 games:
91-216 FGs (.421), 58-74 FTs (.784), 247 points, 7 3s, 75 assists, 113 rebounds, 23 steals, 10 blocks, 33 turnovers

The players I gave up have produced the following #s through 16 games:
86-183 FGs (.470), 40-44 FTs (.909), 246 points, 30 3s, 73 assists, 55 rebounds, 23 steals, 4 blocks, 36 turnovers

So far, I am losing in FG%, FTs -- and I have lost a significant # of 3s (23). I have sacrificed a small amount of scoring.

However, I have gained 58 rebounds and 6 blocks.

There is no difference in steals (What a cruel joke: Ray Allen, that speedster on D, has 9 steals through 6 games and my new acquisition, Allen Iverson, has 2 steals in the last 4 ... at the time of the trade, Iverson was averaging 1.7 steals per game and Allen was averaging 0.8), no real difference in assists or turnovers.

With time, I expect to gain in steals.

I compared the season field goal percentages of these players. Rondo, Iverson, Green, and Marion were 811 for 1786 (.45408) and Duhon, Allen, Carter, and Brewer were a combined 881 for 1914 (.46029). As you can see, it's ridiculous that my group is 49 points lower in the last week (.421 v. .470). It's also ridiculous that Duhon -- a .416 shooter at the time of the deal -- is 20 for 40 since I traded him. But that's how these trades can go. Players will start to perform the moment you deal them.

At the time of these transactions, my four (Rondo, Iverson, Green and Marion) shot a combined .45859 and the four I traded away (Duhon, Allen, Carter and Brewer) shot a combined .45927. That's how close it was. So seeing this dip in field goal percentage is entirely unexpected. With time, I expect the difference to narrow ... until the FG %s are ultimately even. Ray Allen will not shoot .487 for the year.
