Shawn Marion: 19-37 on field goal attempts, 6-7 from the line, one 3, 28 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 steals, 0 blks, 45 pts, 1 turnover in 3 games
So a brief summation of the positives would be 15 ppg, 9.3 reb, 2 steals through his first three games. Of course, Marion's first game for me (25 pts, 13 rebounds) was his best game of the season -- and not representative of how truly abysmal he has been.
The 12 pt, 8 rebound, 2 steal guy (who disappeared in the 4th quarter) we saw two nights ago is closer to the norm. If he can collect rebounds and steals, that's fine -- I wasn't expecting a Phoenix Suns era Marion.
Rajon Rondo: 10-29 on field goal attempts, 8-13 from the line, zero 3s, 15 rebounds, 32 assists, 7 steals, 2 blocks, 28 points, 7 turnovers in 3 games
Essentially 9.3 ppg, 10.6 assists, 5 rebounds, 2.3 steals. The steals are critical, obviously, and I don't really need Rondo to score. What I do require is better shooting. When I gave up Duhon's 3s, I kept alluding to the fact that Rondo would help my FG% (Duhon was .416 on the season whereas Rondo was above 50%) and also help in steals. So far, I've only been half right.
Jeff Green: 13-44 on field goal attempts, 12-14 from the line, two 3s, 28 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 3 blocks, 40 points, 9 turnovers in 3 games
13.3 ppg, 9.3 rebounds, 1 blk
Here is yet another player whose FG% was supposedly an asset. When I traded for Green, I noted that his field goal percentage for the year was above 46% and his field goal percentage during the last month was near 49%. Through three games on my team, he's shooting 29.5%. Unacceptable. Throw in 3 turnovers a game, which is also unacceptable. I'm happy to have all of these rebounds, but at what cost?
Obviously, you can't evaluate a trade after only 3 games. But I'm beginning to wonder if it would've been better to just hold onto Duhon, Allen, Carter and some scrub in the 4th spot (say, Ronnie Brewer).
